Debunking the Myths!

Every profession has its myths, maybe youve heard the one that teachers only work 9–3:30 (definitely not true!) Hypnotherapists hear a few myths about what we do too, such as ‘Hypnosis is mind control.’

It’s not: You’re always in control, fully aware, and no one can make you do anything against your will.

‘You can get stuck in hypnosis.’

Nope! It’s more like being absorbed in a film, if the screen goes blank, you simply refocus and get on with your day.

 ‘Don’t look in their eyes!’

We love this one, the idea we have magical powers like the snake in The Jungle Book. Sadly (or luckily?), not true. Hypnotherapy is research-based, not magic.

‘Only weak-minded people can be hypnotised.’

Actually, it works best for people who are imaginative, focused, and able to relax into the process.

‘It’s the same as stage hypnosis.’

Not at all. Stage hypnosis is entertainment, Hypnotherapy is a professional, evidence-informed approach to meaningful change.

Heard a weird myth about hypnosis? We’re happy to explain what we do.
